Concessions
People receiving certain benefits and young people from their 16th birthday until their 18th birthday get reduced fees and charges on requests, hire charges (not including DVDs) and overdue charges.
If you receive any of the benefits listed below, ask to register for concessions at Your Library. You will need to bring proof of benefit
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance
- Disability Working Allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Incapacity Benefit
- Income Support
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- Invalid Care Allowance
- Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Minimum income guarantee
- Pension Credit
- Severe Disablement Allowance
- Universal Credit
- War Disablement Pension
- Working Tax Credit
Other concessions
- Deaf users do not pay for sub-titled videos for the deaf
- Blind, partially sighted users, or people with a disability preventing use of normal text (“print disabled”), may hire language courses, talking books for free
- Blind and partially sighted people may hire music CDs for free
- Mobile libraries do not have overdue charges (rehire charges will still apply)
- Children up until their 16th birthday do not pay overdue charges on items borrowed using their own library card
- Children under five years, looked after children and children with special needs will not pay for lost or damaged books when they are borrowed using their own library card. (There is a charge for items that are not returned)
- Library users with a special membership which allows them to borrow for an Early Years (under 5’s) setting will not pay for lost or damaged books when they are borrowed using their own library card. (There is a charge for items that are not returned)
