Shhh … we have an important announcement to make!  Things may have changed in modern libraries and members are now just as likely to grapple with information technology or attend a genealogy club as borrow a book, but one thing that remains the same is that Kinver is keeping its Library.

Following the news that our Library had been designated as one of many within Staffordshire that would cease to be run by the Council, a successful management bid was submitted by a newly-formed group, Kinver Community Library Limited (KCLL).  Although Staffordshire County Council will continue to own and maintain the building, plans are now well underway for KCLL to take over operation of this “Village Hub” completely in the New Year.

Preparing for the community-managed Library, dedicated volunteers are currently being trained, benefitting from hands-on experience with existing librarians.  If you’d like to join the volunteer team you’d receive a warm welcome, whether for general library duties such as issuing books and shelving, or helping with events or clubs – of which we envisage many, for all sections of our community.  From “Baby Bounce” to transport and a delivery service for the elderly, homework and debating clubs, CV help, computer courses, book groups and “Knit & Natter”, there’ll be plenty going on.  A hot drinks machine and daily newspapers will add to a welcoming atmosphere: meet up with other local residents and make yourself at home!  Following installation of movable shelving next summer, there’ll also be meeting and event space available for local societies to hire.

Structured as a charity, KCLL is managed by Chairman Ekkehard Schirrmacher, Finance Director Paul Wooddisse, IT Director Andy Calloway, Book Stock Manager Val Davis, Volunteer Co-ordinator Ruth Pearsall and Community Relations Administrator Katherine Dixson.  Working capital for initial operation has been secured from several local supporters and organisations, to whom we are extremely grateful, and many of the proposed activities will generate income.  There are exciting times ahead for Kinver Community Library and we won’t be keeping quiet about this new chapter in village life: stay tuned for our soon-to-be-launched website.
