Kinver Community Library has been offering activities in genealogy and family history since it took over as a volunteer-led organisation in January, but so far these have only been for adults. Now it’s the turn of young people to gain some skills in researching their ancestral background, at an event to take place at the library on Saturday 22nd July, 1.30-4.30pm.
This fun activity will be led by volunteer Jenny Metcalfe, who through her experience and expertise will guide participants in how to search online as well as suggesting topics of conversation to have with the older generations. Workshop attendees will receive a user-friendly booklet, ‘My Family Tree’, produced by the Federation of Family History Societies, in which to record facts, dates and stories that they discover.
Children of 11+ are welcome to attend on their own but younger ones will need the help of a parent or family member. The cost is £5 per child or per family group. If your child(ren) would like a hands-on introduction to this fascinating hobby, sign up without delay as spaces are limited; please visit the library to make your reservation and collect a letter outlining a bit of preparation the participant will need to do in advance.
