After a busy summer of children’s activities, it’ll soon be time to revert to the usual routines at the library. It was great to welcome so many youngsters signing up to the Summer Reading Challenge, and they have until 11th September to bring back the last of their six books to claim their completer’s prize certificate and medal. Please keep coming back for more wonderful reading material!
Lots of regulars as well as newcomers came along to the series of events by the Think Tank, Birmingham’s science museum. These proved not just educational but also highly entertaining and interactive, and we had some great feedback. Most of the activities – such as learning about space travel and the workings of the human body – took place at the library itself, but we also hired the KSCA where a magnificent pop-up planetarium provided a glimpse into the wonders of the night sky.
Back down to earth, the library saw plenty of creativity with the Friday morning craft workshops. Children completed projects ranging from patchwork wallhangings, festival headdresses and ‘little books of summer’, and it was wonderful to see them absorbed in such industry. Watch out for the next one in October half-term!
Meanwhile, our regular activities have still been on offer, and these will of course continue as we look forward to the months ahead: Knot, Knit & Natter fortnightly on Tuesday mornings, morning and evening book groups monthly, computer classes on Tuesday afternoons, family history on Wednesday mornings fortnightly, Baby Bounce & Rhyme every Friday afternoon, and monthly drop-in advice sessions on Thursdays from Beacon Centre for the Blind (morning) and Kinver Police (late afternoon). Advice surgeries from other organisations and events such as author talks will also take place from time to time – for full details of dates and timings, check out our monthly Borrowers’ Bulletin newsletter, available from the library and from some of the High Street traders.
For more information on our events and clubs, have a look at our Activities and Groups page.
Oh, and by the way, as if all that weren’t enough, we’re still here to help you borrow brilliant books!
