Kinver Community Library is hosting a celebration tea party between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday 7 June in recognition of National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week is celebrated across the world to promote and show appreciation for volunteering in the community. In the UK this takes place during the first week of June.
The Library, which is run and staffed by volunteers, is organising the tea party in Vicarage Drive, Kinver, to give visitors an opportunity to meet the team. It’s a free event and everyone is welcome to come along, take tea and sample some delicious homemade cakes.
An enthusiastic band of volunteers has been running the Library since January 2017 – enabling local people to participate in providing an important service at the very heart of the community. The Library has continued to develop its range of services, offering activities for young and old, a range of courses, exhibitions and special events throughout the year.
Volunteer Ian Barrett is responsible for coordinating the team who runs the Library on a weekly rota. Ian says: “Since we became a community library, there has never been a shortage of volunteers eager to help out. The team has been steadily growing and we now have nearly 30 members. It’s a real pleasure to work with so many enthusiastic individuals, who have also become good friends. We are all looking forwarding to welcoming everyone to the tea party and celebrating National Volunteer Week.”
