The volunteers at Kinver Community Library are delighted that Michael Christian Durrant has chosen the library as the venue for a pre-concert talk, in advance of his classical guitar recital at St Peter’s Church. The concert itself takes place on Saturday 4th May, and ticket-holders have the opportunity to attend the ‘meet the artist’ event at the library on Friday 3rd May at 7.30pm.
A masters graduate of the Royal College of Music, Michael has been described by BBC Radio 3 as ‘A forerunner in the new generation of classical guitarists’. He’s forging a glittering career with a busy performance schedule both in the UK and overseas, so this is a rare opportunity to hear him locally. ‘Kinver is where I grew up,’ says Michael, ‘so it feels right to bring my music back home.’
The delicious sunny melodies of Joaquín Rodrigo, Claude Debussy and Isaac Albéniz – amongst others – will surely sound splendid in St Peter’s. Concertgoers who would like to gain an insight into the musical repertoire and the instrument are warmly invited to attend the Friday evening event at the library; this will feature an informal Q&A session and hopefully an excerpt or two on the guitar.
The pre-concert talk is a free event for concert ticket-holders. Tickets are for sale at Omnipresent in Kinver High Street or via Eventbrite on this link. Concert tickets (for Saturday) will also be available to purchase at the talk (on Friday).
