If you are aged between 14 and 18, live or go to school or college in Staffordshire and love poetry, this is an amazing opportunity to showcase your own work while promoting poetry to young people throughout the county.

Staffordshire Libraries & Arts Service wishes to appoint a new Staffordshire Young Poet Laureate for a one-year tenure starting in October 2021. An unpaid role, the Poet will be expected to share their work, photos and activities with the Library Service and undertake a minimum of two activities found by Staffordshire County Council. There will be opportunities to work with and be mentored by the current Staffordshire Poet Laureate and to participate in poetry events (subject to Covid guidelines) across the county. There may even be opportunities to write poems to commemorate specific events.

If you are interested in this exciting, high profile role, please pop into the library submit two poems, one relating to Staffordshire being a great place in which to live, work and visit. The other poem can be of your own choice. These poems must be supported by some ideas on what you would do during your period as Laureate.

Closing date is 16 July 2021, with the winner announced on National Poetry Day, 7 October 2021.

Completed application forms, together with the two poems, must be returned to Sue Ball at Staffordshire Libraries and Arts Service, Tipping Street, Stafford ST16 2DH or email: sue.ball@staffordshire.gov.uk.
